Frequently Asked Questions
I can't seem to figure out the address/location of
the camps. I am sure I have just not found the right web page, but could
you help me out with this?
For the safety and security of our campers we do not
post the exact location of the camps on the website. Camp Grove Point is
located near Earleville Maryland, Camp Todd is located near Denton
Maryland, and Camp Country Center is located in Hockessin, Delaware. We
can provide directions to these camps if you require them and directions
will be provided in your confirmation packet.
I am very interested in
getting a job at Grove Point this summer. I am 16 years old and have
been in Girl Scouts for 10 years. I have been to Grove Point many times
with my troop and am familiar with the camp. Please let me know what I
have to do to apply for a job. Thank you.
I am so excited to hear about the time you have spent
at Camp Grove Point. For girls ages 15-17, I am offering several
exciting, paid positions. These positions include assistants for the
following areas: Kitchen, Arts & Crafts, Program, Office, and Waterfront
(must have current lifeguarding, or be a strong swimmer who is willing
to get her lifeguarding). Please email me your address so I can send an
application packet your way. You will also need to fill out your working
permit (which can usually be obtained at your school). I would love to
answer any further questions you may have, please let me know what
position(s) you are thinking about applying for. I look forward to
hearing from you.
What is the trading post
deposit on the form and how much is it?
The trading post deposit is the amount of money you
would like your child to be able to spend at our camp store (a store
where she can buy camp novelties and items such as extra bug spray, a
toothbrush, journal, songbook, etc.). You may either make the deposit
for this now or when you drop your child off at camp, the average
deposit amount is $15-$20.
Hi-I'd like to know how and
where you recruit your [Grove Point] counselors, what type of training they receive,
and what percent typically return the following summer? Do you have many
counselors who were once Grove Point campers?
I recruit my counselors from colleges and universities
all over the country. Locally, I attend many job fairs and set up
information booths to attract students. I also use international job
placement organizations such as BUNAC or Camp America. Some of our staff
members have been coming to Grove Point for years as a camper, and
through the years there has been a small portion of returning staff. All
staff members receive two or more weeks of training (more for director
positions, lifeguards, and specified program areas – such as archery
training. The training the staff receives is very intensive and covers
everything from emergency procedures and drills to camper behavior by
age, and everything in between.
Will we receive a list of
what to pack once registration is completed? Thank you.
What a great question! Once we receive your
registration and payment you will receive a confirmation packet (give us
about week for delivery time). In the confirmation packet is an
abundance of great information, including a packing list to help you
prepare your child for her stay at camp!
Does Camp Grove Point offer any day camp programs for Cadette level girl scouts?
Grove Point does not offer day camp programs for Cadettes or Seniors. Consider staying over for the week... we know you’ll have a blast!
My daughter turned 13 in
December. She has never been to Girl Scouts but has recently become
interested in it. Is she too old to try out your day camps or
residential camps ?
As you may know, you do not have to be a Girl Scout to
go to Girl Scout camp! We serve all girls from all areas of the country.
Your daughter is a bit too old to come to day camp, but she is at a
perfect age to come to residential camp. There are so many exciting
residential camp opportunities for girls her age, including horseback
riding and lots of water sports on the river. We also have several arts
programs and programs that offer out of camp trips. If you and your
daughter browse through the Teen programs I am sure you will find a
program that is the perfect fit for her!
Will camp aides be working
with all campers this summer?
Camp Aides will be working with campers that are
Brownies and Juniors. Aides will never be solely responsible for campers
and will always be working alongside experienced counselors.
In order for a girl to participate in any Waterfront activities, does she have to be a swimmer?
Your child will be swim tested on the first day of
camp. If she is a non-swimmer she will be placed in a boat with a
lifeguard or other staff member while at the waterfront.
