Preventing Child Abuse

According to national statistics, each day more than three children die as a result of abuse or neglect in the home. On average, a child abuse report is made every 10 seconds—a total of approximately three million child abuse reports annually. Child abuse can take many forms: physical, sexual, emotional, and neglect.

Child abuse is preventable. Together we can stop the abuse!

Children

No one has the right to abuse you… you do not deserve it. It is not your fault and don’t go through it alone.

How to project yourself from abuse:

  • Do not be alone with someone you don't feel safe with.

  • Do not be alone with anyone who hurts you.

  • Listen to the little voice inside when it says that what is being done to you isn't right.

  • Find an adult you trust and tell them what is happening. If they don't believe you, keep telling until someone does believe you.

Adults

Play a role in preventing child abuse. Here are some tips:

  • Never disciple when your anger is out of control. Remove yourself from the situation. Count to ten breathing deeply

  • Participate in your child’s life. Know who their friends are.

  • Teach your child the difference between “good touches” and “bad touches”

  • If your child tells you she doesn’t want to be with someone, listen to them and believe what they say. This could be a red flag

  • If you notice changes in your child’s behavior, talk to them about it.

  • Teach your child what to do if you and your child become separated while away from home.
