Lights…Camera…Cookies! The Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay are
gearing up for yet another successful Cookie Program, starting
January 5, 2008. Individuals interested in purchasing cookies can
call the Cookie Hotline at 1-800-YUM-YUM2.
The Girl Scout
Cookie Program is about more than just selling great tasting
cookies. The program has a lasting impact on girls’ lives by
helping them to build life skills such as money management,
decision-making, teamwork and goal setting. The benefits of the
Cookie Program have been hailed by many of today’s businesswomen,
who cite selling Girl Scout cookies as their first step toward
successful careers.
All of the
proceeds—every penny—from a local council's cookie activities
remains in the area where the cookies are sold. This revenue is used
to benefit girls, some of it directly by remaining in the Girl Scout
troop treasuries, and some of it indirectly by funding Council-led
programs for Girl Scouts. In 2007, over 9,000 Girl Scouts
participated in the Cookie Program, selling over 1,071,000 boxes
of cookies to the community.
“When you buy a box
of cookies from a Girl Scout, you do two things—you help her prepare
for a successful future, and you help strengthen your community,”
said Melissa Cox, Director of Communications & Advocacy for the Girl
Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council.
The Cookie
Program will continue through March 2nd. The press will
be notified of upcoming cookie booth sales, kickoff events, and
other cookie related activities.
A leading
advocate for and expert on girls, the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake
Bay builds girls of courage, confidence and character by providing
personal leadership development and programs that teach skills for
the real world. To learn more about Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake
