Newark, DE, March 7, 2007: While many people associate Girl Scouting with
cookies, camping, badges, and singing, the founder of the Girl Scout
Movement, Juilette Gordon Low wanted girls to experience varied
experiences so they might develop self-reliance and resourcefulness.
She encouraged girls to prepare not only for traditional homemaking,
but also for future roles as professional women in the arts,
sciences, and business, and for active citizenship.
As Girl Scouts
celebrates 95 years as a movement for girls and by girls on March
12th, we embrace our traditions while continuing to provide girls
with relevant programs and opportunities to gain real life skills
for the real world. We continue our mission of building girls of
courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better
place.
As part of Girl Scout Week celebration, Girl Scouts of the
Chesapeake Bay Council will be honoring Carol A. Ammon on March 13
in the Gold Ballroom of the Hotel DuPont with over 440 community and
business leaders looking on during the annual Women of Distinction
Celebration. Ms. Ammon will share how is became a successful woman
businesswoman. Over 50 outstanding young women will join Delaware
leaders to celebrate the significant contributions made by women.
