Newark, DE, December 14, 2006:  The Girl Scout Cookie program encourages girls to step it up! The theme of 2007 Girl Scout Cookie program is Step It Up!. The program motivates girls to lead healthy, active and balanced lifestyles inspiring girls to action-oriented in everything they do.

The Girl Scout Cookie program is more than just selling cookies, but is a fun way for girls to learn valuable life skills such as money management, decision-making, teamwork, and goal setting... skills they need for today and tomorrow. The beneficial effects are evidenced by the fact that many of today’s businesswomen cite selling Girl Scout cookies as their first step toward successful careers.

“I learned how to manage money and time from selling cookies.” Said Cadette Girl Scout Megan, Troop 54, Newark, Delaware. Megan has been participating in the Cookie Program for the past eight years. Her troop is working towards a trip.

Girl Scouts will be out in your community taking Girl Scout cookie orders starting on January 6, 2007. Cookies will be delivered by Girl Scouts between February 3rd and 8th.

All the proceeds from this program stay here in the communities the Girl Scouts come from, directly benefiting all of the Girl Scouts in our community, including the Girl Scout troop you buy Girl Scout cookies from. In 2006, over 8,000 Girl Scouts learned money management and marketing skills in Cookie Program with over 1 million boxes sold to the community. Approximately 19,000 girls participate in Girl Scouts on the Delmarva Peninsula each year.

Operation Taste of Homesm

Since 2003, Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council Operation Taste of Homesm has provided over 90,000 boxes of the Girl Scout cookies to our Armed Forces overseas via the USO thanks to the generosity of the community. The USO located at Dover Air Force Base distributed the cookies all over the world. This project gave girls the opportunity to make a positive difference for our women and men in the armed forces overseas.  Community members can purchase Girl Scout Cookies directly at Cookie Booths in grocery stores, drug stores, and churches throughout the Delmarva Peninsula starting on February 9 or call 1-800-YUM-YUM2 or go to www.cbgsc.org through March.
