Newark, DE, May 22, 2007:  Junior Girl Scout Taylor Richie, aged 11, Bridgeville, Delaware, received the nationally recognized Prudential Spirit of Community Award for Community Service.

Taylor, a Junior Girl Scout in Bridgeville, was honored because of her work to raise funds to purchase toys, games, and other play equipment for children undergoing treatment for cancer at A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital in Wilmington.  Taylor identified the need after spending a summer that the hospital where she found there was nothing for kids to do. And when a water leak destroyed what they did have, Taylor decided to act. She was able to raise $5000 to purchase books, puzzles, movies, art supplies and play stations.

Taylor is the Girl Scout Mission: to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. She identified a need, took action, and became a leader within her community while making the world a better place.

Taylor was one of only two young people to receive this award in the State of Delaware.  She originally received the award earlier this month in a ceremony in Washington DC, but was recently honored at the Woodbridge School District Student Awards ceremony.
