Building A Legacy PatchSERVICE PROJECT 2005 - 2006

Building A Legacy
It’s Not Easy Being Green!

What is this program?
Each year, Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay selects an issue of particular importance to our girls as the focus of a council-wide service project. Our focus for the 2005-2006 program year is how we impact the environment we live, work and play in. Each year the project has three main components:
1. Education – for the girls, their families and the community.
2. Service – to others in the community.
3. Visibility – for Girl Scouts’ commitment to important issues.

Why the environment?
As many of you know Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay is in the midst of a capital campaign in which we plan to develop our four camp properties. Each camp has its own unique environment and we want to be good stewards and preserve them for future generations. Maintaining a delicate balance of diverse environments requires constant careful stewardship; and learning about these environments will help girls and adults to become better stewards of natural resources. In all aspects of this capital campaign we at Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay believe that every one should be concerned about land use, development and environmental issues. This project addresses several quality of life concerns: air, water, land, wildlife habitat, and green construction. Participation in this service project will teach girls how they may have a direct impact on the quality of our environment.

How do we participate?
The core of this project is the “Building a Legacy” patch program. To participate, please use the girl event registration form to sign up and to order your patches. Deadline to register will be February 18, 2006, and patches will be mailed to troops in mid-April, 2006.

What about other related programs, like Girl Scouts Walk Softly, Follow the Flow-H2O, and Girl Girls Breaking Ground PatchScouts Breaking Ground?

Troops, Service Units and individual girls may participate in as many or few as they wish. There is no minimum requirement of related or supplemental programs you must attend.
